GrapheneOS
The private and secure mobile operating system with Android app compatibility. Developed as a non-profit open source project.
About
GrapheneOS is a privacy and security focused mobile OS with Android app compatibility developed as a non-profit open source project. It's focused on the research and development of privacy and security technology including substantial improvements to sandboxing, exploit mitigations and the permission model. It was founded in 2014 and was formerly known as CopperheadOS.
GrapheneOS improves the privacy and security of the OS from the bottom up. It deploys technologies to mitigate whole classes of vulnerabilities and make exploiting the most common sources of vulnerabilities substantially more difficult. It improves the security of both the OS and the apps running on it. The app sandbox and other security boundaries are fortified. GrapheneOS tries to avoid impacting the user experience with the privacy and security features. Ideally, the features can be designed so that they're always enabled with no impact on the user experience and no additional complexity like configuration options. It's not always feasible, and GrapheneOS does add various toggles for features like the Network permission, Sensors permission, restrictions when the device is locked (USB-C / pogo pins, camera, quick tiles), etc. along with more complex user-facing privacy and security features with their own UX.
The features page provides an overview of the substantial privacy and security improvements added by GrapheneOS to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Many of our past features were contributed to AOSP, Linux and other projects to improve privacy and security for billions of users so they're no longer listed on our features page.
Official releases are available on the releases page and installation instructions are on the install page.
GrapheneOS also develops various apps and services with a focus on privacy and security. Vanadium is a hardened variant of the Chromium browser and WebView specifically built for GrapheneOS. GrapheneOS also includes our minimal security-focused PDF Viewer, our hardware-based Auditor app / attestation service providing local and remote verification of devices, our modern privacy / security focused camera app, and the externally developed Seedvault encrypted backup which was initially developed for inclusion in GrapheneOS.
No Google apps or services
GrapheneOS will never include either Google Play services or another implementation of Google services like microG. It's possible to install Play services as a set of fully sandboxed apps without special privileges via our sandboxed Google Play compatibility layer. See the FAQ section for more details on our plans for filling in the gaps from not shipping Play services and Google apps.

I long thought that a distance sensor would be a nice addition to Mindstorms robots, but ultrasonic ones were bulky and power hungry (I've since found Robot Electronics Ultrasonic Range Finder that can perhaps be used), and simple infrared method like the one I used in my radar car detects obstacles but don't give true distance measurement. The solution came from Andreas Peter (thanks Andreas for showing me these devices !) who interfaced a Sharp GP2D02 to RCX.

The System.
Playdate is familiar, but unlike anything you've ever seen. It has a very special black and white screen – not backlit, but super reflective – that looks way more amazing than you're probably imagining.
It also has a peppy little processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (coming soon), and a surprisingly loud loudspeaker. And when you're not using it, the screen doesn't turn off – it becomes a very nice low-power clock!

The Design.
Thanks to our friends at Teenage Engineering, Playdate looks incredible. It's colorful. It fits in your pocket. And we worked hard to make sure buttons feel perfectly clicky and that the crank action is silky smooth.
The Crank.
Yes, the crank. Is it a gimmick? Nah. Does it charge Playdate's battery? Nope. Is it really fun? Yes yes yes. It's an analog controller that flips out from the side, allowing you to precisely dial in the action. Not every game uses it, but some really do, like Crankin's Time Travel Adventure.

Welcome to the LEGO MindStorms RCX Hub! 👋
This BrickBot organization contains information and projects related to the original LEGO® MindStorms set—the LEGO® MindStorms RCX!
A hacker community grew around the RCX—individuals intrigued by the capabilities and determined to push the limits of what was possible. Of a time before GitHub came to prominence as site for sharing open source projects, many of these RCX projects were scattered on various personal and univeristy websites across the Internet.
A number of these projects have otherwise disappeared from the Internet, while others languished in deprecated version control systems or could only be found by looking up the website on an Internet archive. A few were projects that had been downloaded and saved before the original web pages disappeared, but whereever and whenever possible, links to either the original website (if still active) or an Internet archive version (if available) have been included.
getROM
Tools and utilities from dumping the ROM from an RCX, which is often then used by RCX emulators.
Obtaining a ROM Image
Based on both original instructions posted here and accessed via archive.org
as well as more recent documentation (plus a patch file) posted on the RCXSimulator site.
Here is one set of steps you might follow to obtain an image:
- Get and compile
send.c. - Get
firm0309-modToGetROM.srec. You can have a look at the diffgetROM.diff. - Download the new firmware file to the RCX. with nqc for example
nqc -firmware firm0309-modToGetROM.srec - Get and perhaps edit
getrom.pl. As is, this program assumes you are running under some flavor of Unix and that you have Perl 5 installed. It also assumes that the send program is in your path. - Run
getrom.pland redirect its stdout to a file. Whengetrom.plcompletes, this file should contain an image of the ROM in s-record format. - Don't forget to reinstall the normal firmware once you've got your ROM image.
